Elo Anything – ranks absolutely everything, one duel at a time.
Today, I finished a project that had been on my mind for a while: Elo Anything.
The basic idea: a web app for creating lists, voting in duels — "A or B?" — and letting an Elo score (the same system used in chess) build the ranking as votes come in. Movies, restaurants, memes: anything that can be compared can be ranked.
On paper, it starts as something simple and gamified — settling debates about favorite restaurants or movie rankings among friends. But the more I think about it, the more the real-world uses go beyond that:
On the personal side: ranking your best travel memories, favorite recipes, a list of baby names, or just settling an endless debate between friends (team pizza vs team burger, no judgment here).
On the professional side, this is where it gets genuinely interesting: prioritizing a product roadmap, settling between design mockups, having a team vote on feature ideas — without endless meetings, without the loudest opinion winning by default. The duel forces a decision. The Elo score turns dozens of micro-decisions into an objective ranking.
A project born from a slightly nerdy urge, which ultimately answers a very concrete need: stop arguing for hours to settle between two options.
